NTSC

NTSC is short for National Television System Committee and is an analog television system that is commonly used. The National Television System Committee is actually the committee which developed NTSC . NTSC was created to broadcast black and white television in 1941. Later in 1953, NTSC was modified to allow color television broadcasting. It was still capable of broadcasting black and white television. NTSC has been replaced by ATSC in the US in 2009 and Canada will do the same by 2011. NTSC has been used for over half a century so ATSC will definitely be an improvement.

The NTSC standard is using by most of the Americas, Japan, and some parts of Asia. There are also variations of the NTSC standard including NTSC -M and NTSC -J.

The rest of the world is using different standards such as PAL and SECAM . The other standards were made to improve on the NTSC standard, which is why PAL is superior to NTSC in picture and broadcast quality. However, DVDs are used in both formats and the formats are not compatible with each other. Many people who come to the US from overseas often find this a problem. But it is easily solved with using a multisystem TV instead of a regular TV.

Since the majority of Europe and Africa is using the PAL and SECAM formats, it is best for immigrants from overseas to purchase a TV that is compatible with all formats. Instead of having two or three regular televisions, just have one Multisystem TV that can play them all. A convenient and recommended website is Overseas Best Buy.
